artist: Rocketclover | genre: indie, folk | label: Criminal Records
Our friends at Criminal Records have turned us on to some great music since Froglix launched almost a year and half ago! The Kut, The Exits…cutting edge alternative rock bands with plenty of indie attitude…and then there’s Rocketclover. These blokes are hilarious, wonderfully talented musicians who have taken what is arguably one of the best (if not the best) punk song every written and transformed it into an indie/folk gem! Look, covering the Sex Pistols is nothing new but…a folk version of ‘Anarchy in the UK’!? Are you kidding me?!? This one has got to be at the top of the list for ingenuity.
A recent press release from CR stated out that “The motive behind the release aims to rectify the 1977 injustice against The Sex Pistols whose popular single ‘God Save The Queen’ was prevented from reaching No. 1 because of an ‘unwelcome’ coincidence with the Queen’s silver jubilee.”
Their motivation ’tis noble indeed…and the song/video are both a fitting tribute to a phenomenal band.
